Our People and Our Culture - Links
We are a people - Germanic people, part of the Greater Family of European peoples, following the ways of our ancestors.
Only when we realize we are a river will we stop drowning in puddles.
Here are a collection of Icelandic customs for the beginning of summer.

This is a piece describing a Viking reenactment laboratory in Poland. In addition to providing a lot of fun for hobbyists, it is a serious attempt to answer questions about Norse material culture. It would have been nice to have seen a longer article, however.

It seems an entire "country" disappeared beneath the North Sea some 8,000 years ago. Scientists are now able to map the ancient landscape as it would have been before its submersion.

About half the Caucasian population, it seems, are likely to have a particular genetic weakness that makes us prone to heart attacks.

Freedom and Asatru - Links
Our Western traditions of freedom under law derive overwhelmingly from the culture of Northern Europe. (Both words, "freedom" and "law," have Teutonic roots.) It is our task to maintain this gift from our ancestors. In Asatru, freedom is a religious issue!

This poll indicates that most Americans don't really have much problem with the "Real ID" national ID card, and plenty of them don't care if the government tacks on all sorts of biometrics. As far as I'm concerned, this punctures the facade of the "freedom loving American." Nonsense. The American masses want toys, and convenience.

Notwithstanding the poll above, about fifty organizations devoted to privacy and freedom have united to fight Real ID.

Asatru and the Environment - Links
The Earth is our mother, called variously in our mythic lore Frigga, Nerthus, and Jord. As the most intelligent species on the planet, humans end up making many decisions for all the other forms of life that live here - so let us choose wisely.
What's it going to be, Americans? Redwoods, or immigrants? Water, or immigrants? Habitats for wildlife, or immigrants? Funny, back when Dr. Ehrlich was convincing a generation of mostly European-Americans to not have children, other folks were not taking that advice. Now they all want to come here.

Half of all the plant and animals species on the planet will be extinct by the end of this century. What are we going to do about it?

Skeptics claim that computer models are not accurate at forecasting climate change. Well, they're right...over and over, it seems the models have been two conservative. Actual, measurable changes appear to be happening faster than the models indicated. For example, this article suggests that the Arctic ice is melting considerably more rapidly than projected.
