The Asatru Folk Assembly's latest podcast asks: Where are the cathedrals of Asatru? Medieval cathedrals were built to show the power of the Christian God over the centuries. Should our own faith have any equivalent to these magnificent buildings? How would Asatru “cathedrals” differ from those of Christendom? Would they even be places of worship - or would they be something entirely different?
This is thinking on a large scale, but it is time we who follow Asatru begin envisioning that which is far beyond our current reach. Asatru is not just another form of entertainment in a degenerate age, nor a substitute for video games and television triviality, nor is it a club for Viking “wannabees.” To find out more, listen!

A cathederal is certainly an interesting idea Steve. The Reykjavik cathederal is certainly without doubt an impressive structure, however I'm not sure if the Asatru faith needs cathederals. I have often wondered myself why the Asatru faith doesn't have a purpose built building where followers of the faith can meet and worship and belived that it was a deliberate choice not to go down that road.
The idea of a cathederal may not appeal to some, however a grand hall might be a suitable alternative.
Hail the Gods & Goddesses, hail our noble ancestors.
Great show. I have enjoyed all of the podcasts as well as your youtube channel. Thanks for doing this.
Steven, I do have a question about the cathedral idea. While I know that there were temples, I was under the impression that worship was also sometimes conducted in outdoor settings, such as sacred groves, etc. Am I wrong about this? It just seems so natural to be outside. Also, since I'm wasting your time anyway, I was wondering if you know of any kindreds near Eureka, on the north coast of CA. I've been trying to find other folks to connect with, but haven't had much luck yet.
Thanks for the podcasts and posts.
The idea of Asatru having its own grand works is interesting and it can help to bring the northern path back to our people.
I think the Asatru cathedrals can be religious buildings, but it can indeed also be something completely different.
But starting 'small', I think that we could erect grand works of art, such as sculptures, to beautify our natural places of worship. We shouldn't build our own version of churches, but instead extend the granduer of nature with our works of art, which should express the might of the Gods, ancestors and our people. This binds the folk, nature and the Gods together in a way that is more true to Asatru.
